UP TO TWO (2) POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW POSITIONS AT THE RESILIENT SOCIETY DEPARTMENT

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence ) of Cyprus University of Technology ) invites applications for up to two (2) positions at the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow level at the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The position is open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidate will conduct research under multiple Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence projects funded by the European Union, including the flagship Excelsior H2020 Teaming project ), and other National or industry-funded projects (AI-OBSERVER, CyCLOPS+, etc.).

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has a 16-year experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the "EXCELSIOR" H2020 Teaming Project ), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus' development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities for the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Appropriate measures of success will be collaboratively determined based on the Centre's strategic growth plan and sustainability targets. These will be revised periodically by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

AI-OBSERVER (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03-01 – Twinning) https://ai- The EU-funded AI-OBSERVER project titled "Enhancing Earth Observation capabilities of the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence on Disaster Risk Reduction through Artificial Intelligence", will integrate AI into EO applications in multi-hazard monitoring and assessment in Cyprus to significantly increase and stimulate the scientific excellence, innovation capacity, and research management and administrative skills of the ECoE. The ECoE will twin with the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the University of Rome Tor Vergata, whereas CELLOCK Ltd, a Cypriot SME, will lead the commercialisation activities of the project.

CyCLOPS+ (Cyprus RIF, SMALL SCALE INFRASTRUCTURES/1222/0082): The proposed research infrastructure involves upgrading the CyCLOPS strategic research infrastructure unit ), established to study solid earth processes and geohazards in Cyprus, and is the only Tier-1/2 permanent GNSS reference station network in Cyprus, co-located with precise weather stations, tiltmeters, and calibration-grade SAR corner reflectors. The CyCLOPS+ project titled "Cyprus Ground Motion Service" has two main objectives: (a) Densification of the Existing CyCLOPS infrastructure by acquiring additional autonomous Tier-1/2 GNSS collocated multi-sensor configurations and corner reflectors and augmenting the current IT infrastructure, and (b) the development of the Cyprus Ground Motion Service (CyGMS), which will estimate precise and reliable displacements and velocities on Cyprus's natural and artificial ground motion environments.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate/s will be placed in the Department of Resilient Society of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and is expected to contribute towards shaping and advancing its research and innovation agenda by:
1. Conduct applied or fundamental research;
2. Participation and/or organisation of trainings;
3. Participation in the preparation and submission of project deliverables;
4. Dissemination and communication of the project results through journal/conference publications, participation in conferences, information days and other relevant events;
5. Securing financial and other resources from national, regional and international sources;
6. Support mentoring, educating and providing research guidance to graduate students and PhD-candidates;
7. Assisting in the definition of research goals and writing research proposals with the assistance of the Coordinator of the relevant Department;
8. Assisting in the establishment of local, regional, and international research networks that can support the long-term research agenda and priorities of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence;
9. Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.

Qualifications
1. PhD in relevant subject; for example: Remote Sensing; Geoinformatics; Civil Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Surveying Engineering; Computer Science; Disaster Management; Physics; Mathematics;
2. Proven work experience with Optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data;
3. Proven work experience with the use and / or management of geospatial data over two years;
4. Knowledge of at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB); 
5. Proven work experience in a relevant subject;
6. Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing;
7. Experience in working for the European Commission / European Space Agency projects will be considered an advantage.

Minimum Requirements for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
The minimum requirement for the positions of Post-Doctoral Research fellow is a doctoral degree from a recognized university.

The appointment will be for a period of one year (12 months) with the prospect of renewal for another one year. The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from € to € , depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
