Role Purpose

The Science Faculty Lead plays a pivotal academic leadership role within the Secondary School, overseeing the quality, consistency, and development of the Science curriculum across the IB MYP, DP, CP and Waldorf programmes. The role combines subject-specific leadership with active classroom teaching, departmental coordination, and teacher support. The Faculty Lead is responsible for ensuring engaging, inquiry-based, and academically rigorous Science education that supports student success and reflects the school's values and programme philosophies.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 15 periods per week in MYP Science and Biology, DP Biology ensuring high-quality, student-centred instruction.
  • Model best practices in planning, differentiation, assessment, and classroom management.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students and contribute to a positive classroom and school culture.

Academic Leadership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and review of the Science curriculum across MYP, DP, CP, and Waldorf.
  • Ensure horizontal and vertical alignment across Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems).
  • Promote interdisciplinary, inquiry-based, and concept-driven approaches in line with IB and Waldorf pedagogies.

 Faculty Support & Development

  • Mentor and support Science teachers in curriculum delivery, lesson planning, and assessment.
  • Guide new teachers during onboarding and induction processes.
  • Lead regular subject meetings and provide ongoing professional development and instructional coaching.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Oversee development and implementation of consistent assessment practices across the faculty.
  • Support data-informed decision-making and ensure quality of student feedback and reporting.
  • Work closely with programme coordinators to meet internal and external reporting expectations.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as the main liaison between the Science department, Programme Coordinators, and School Leadership.
  • Foster a collaborative, reflective, and inclusive department culture focused on continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives, planning, and events that promote Science and interdisciplinary learning.

Student Success & School Culture

  • Champion student achievement and engagement in Science through projects, competitions, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Support student wellbeing and collaborate with support teams to ensure every student can succeed.
  • Promote the school's values and the IB Learner Profile through day-to-day teaching and leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology  
  • Minimum 7 years of teaching experience in an MYP and/or DP context.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum or faculty coordination.
    Strong understanding of IB philosophy, assessment, and international education trends.

Recruitment process

  • Panel interview including Secondary Principal, MYP Coordinator and Employee Success Head (30 minutes).
  • Deliver an online trial lesson/provide video record of the lesson 
  • Design and Presentation of the Faculty strategy (30 minutes) to the Head of School, Secondary Principal, MYP Coordinator and Employee Success Head
