Role Description
The
Licensing Lawyer
will perform the legal and regulatory work required to obtain, maintain, and renew
gaming licences in various jurisdictions.
The role involves direct coordination with regulators and local service providers, preparation and review of all licensing documentation, assessment of regulatory risk, examination of product compliance from the legal perspective, and support for the company's expansion strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Licensing and Regulatory Management:
- Lead the end-to-end process for obtaining, renewing, and maintaining licences in various jurisdictions for 2 business verticals: b2b and b2c.
- Review all legal and compliance requirements issued by each regulator and ensure the company meets the conditions necessary for licence approval and ongoing supervision.
- Coordinate the preparation, drafting, and submission of licence applications, supporting documents, ownership disclosures, and any supplemental material required by the regulator.
- Respond to regulator queries, information requests, and follow-ups in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain a complete understanding of each jurisdiction's licensing framework in portfolio (can be up to 6) and advise on mandatory policies, operational controls, reporting duties, and governance standards.
- Keep a structured licence register covering deadlines, renewal cycles, reporting obligations, audits, and required filings.
Policy and Documentation Development:
- Draft and maintain all policies, internal procedures, and documentation required by regulators, including but not limited to: AML/KYC documentation, responsible policies, compliance manuals, website terms, privacy statements, and user-facing legal terms required by the licence.
- Review operational descriptions provided by internal teams to ensure they meet regulatory expectations.
- Ensure all drafted policies align with jurisdiction-specific legal standards and can withstand regulatory scrutiny.
Internal Advisory and Compliance Preparation:
- Provide legal guidance to relevant departments on the steps required to satisfy regulator-imposed conditions.
- Work with management to implement structural or procedural changes needed for licence eligibility.
- Conduct gap assessments to identify any missing elements in the products required for licence compliance and propose corrective actions.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise management on their impact, risks, and necessary operational adjustments.
Expansion and New Jurisdiction Assessment:
- Evaluate new jurisdictions for potential entry, analysing legal frameworks, licensing obligations, costs, timelines, and compliance risks.
- Prepare on a monthly basis jurisdictional comparison reports to support business decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Law degree and professional legal qualification (licensed solicitor or equivalent).
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5+ years of post-qualification experience in regulatory compliance, corporate law, and licensing in offshore jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of gaming/iGaming regulations and offshore licensing frameworks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
