ONE (1) ASSISTANT RESEARCHER A' IN CULTURAL HERITAGE FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH OF MONUMENTS AND SITES AT-RISK

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence ) of Cyprus University of Technology ) invites applications for one (1) position at the Assistant Researcher A' level at the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The successful candidate will conduct research under multiple Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence projects funded by the European Union, including the flagship Excelsior H2020 Teaming project ) and the 'TRIQUETRA' projects, as well as other national and/or industry-funded projects. The 'TRIQUETRA' project (https://triquetra-) is funded under the HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01.

The position is open either on a full-time or part-time employment basis.

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in Earth observation, Space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has 16 years of experience in Earth observation and geospatial analysis. Through the "EXCELSIOR" H2020 Teaming Project ), ERATOSTHENES CoE aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus' development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Description of the Position
The Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence is seeking highly skilled candidates to develop methodologies for cultural heritage for studying, monitoring, and protecting archaeological sites and heritage assets. These roles are part of the TRIQUETRA project.

The successful candidates will be responsible for creating a 3D HBIM modelling of pilot sites by displaying damaged or monument features at-risk due to climate change threat as well as develop digital twins and 3D modeling of archaeological monuments for an exceptional visualisation experience. The 3D construction of monuments will rely on existing photogrammetry, dense matching, image processing and ML/DL algorithms. The candidate will be responsible for collecting in-situ data, analysing and creating HBIM models. The ability to process, analyzing, interpreting, and processing satellite and UAV imagery and integrating these data with semi-automatic and AI-driven algorithms is considered an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Developing HBIM models with a high level of accuracy;

• Developing applications to support the TRIQUETRA project;

• Developing, testing and implementing workflow to project standards;

• Process 2D and 3D datasets with image- and range-based techniques;

• Prepare datasets for AI-related and modeling process;

• Producing documentation and ensuring proposed solutions are fit for purpose;

• Support different research activities within the project;

• Working closely with other researchers and partners in the project and to ensure its successful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology or Remote Sensing or Surveying Engineer or Architecture or related field in Cultural Heritage and 3D Modeling;

• Management and supervising skills;

• Modeling skills and experience in working with HBIM or BIM models and/ or processing 2D and 3D datasets;

• PhD in a subject related to Archaeology or Remote Sensing or Surveying Engineering or related field will be considered as advantage;

• Computer Programming skills will be considered as advantage.

The appointment will be for a period of 6 months with the prospect of renewal for another 6 months to one year. The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from €25,468.08 to €29,592.08, depending on qualifications and experience. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary which is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration. All appointments are subject to completion of a probation period of six (6) months.
