ONE (1) RESEARCHER B' OR RESEARCHER A' POSITION AT THE RESILIENT SOCIETY DEPARTMENT

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence ) of Cyprus University of Technology ) invites applications for one (1) position at the Researcher B' or Researcher A' level at the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The position is open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidate will work under Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and will conduct research under funded projects of the CoE e.g. CYCLOPS+, EXCELSIOR H2020 Teaming project.

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has a 18-year experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the 'EXCELSIOR' H2020 Teaming Project ), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus' development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Description of the Position
The successful candidate will actively contribute to the development of advanced GNSS positioning services and research programmes under the umbrella of the CyCLOPS Strategic Infrastructure, with emphasis on geodetic monitoring, high-precision GNSS, and integration with Earth observation. The candidate will also be expected to play a leading role in shaping the Centre's GNSS research agenda and mentoring junior researchers. This position concerns researchers with a Doctoral degree from a recognized University.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be placed in the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and is expected to contribute to the development of services and the conduct of basic and applied research in collaboration with the CyCLOPS strategic infrastructure unit by fulfilling the following tasks:

• Designing, implementing, and validating GNSS positioning services (real-time and post-processing), 
• Developing and maintaining scientific software tools in Python, Perl, FORTRAN and/or C and/or any other programming language for full stack geodetic applications.
• Supporting the CyCLOPS Strategic Infrastructure through research and service provision.
• Conducting field measurements to perform geodetic infrastructure operations, such as the determination of tie points, measurement of triangulation benchmarks etc.
• Writing of proposals for securing grants or services
• Writing publications and technical reports
• Manage research projects and services
• Supervision & mentoring of MSc/PhD students.
• Collaboration with international networks (IGS, EUREF, EPOS) to promote CyCLOPS and ECoE services.
• Contribution to operational services (e.g., near-real-time GNSS solutions for users in Cyprus and the EMMENA region).
• Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Geomatic Engineering or other closely related field.
• PhD in Geodesy and GNSS.
• Extensive experience in the operation and customization of the Bernese GNSS v.5.2+ software.
• Strong programming experience in Python, Perl, Fortran and/or C applied to Geodetic and Earth Observation problems.
• Strong experience in the analysis of positioning timeseries, orbit determination, coordinate reference systems realizations.
• At least 5 years previous experience on GNSS and Geodesy research institutes or universities.
• Track record of peer-reviewed publications in high-calibre GNSS/ Geodesy journals and conferences.
• Engagement with international initiatives (e.g., IAG, EUREF, EPOS, IGS, COSPAR) will be considered an advantage.Good knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing is required.

The appointment will be for six (6) months with the prospect of renewal for another six (6) months. The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from € to € for Researcher B', and from € to € for Researcher A', depending on the qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
