ONE (1) ASSISTANT RESEARCHER A' POSITION AT THE RESILIENT SOCIETY DEPARTMENT

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence ) of Cyprus University of Technology ) invites applications for one (1) position at the Assistant Researcher A' level at the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The position is open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidate will work under Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence recently commenced services entitled "Development of a database and a Geographical Information System (GIS) for the municipalities of the Limassol district" funded by the Limassol Municipality.

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has a 16-year experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the 'EXCELSIOR' H2020 Teaming Project ), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus' development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Brief Description of the service
The information systems that serve the Municipalities are designed and implemented to serve the daily processes of the Municipalities but at the same time provide aggregated data on the performance of their departments. Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important management infrastructure for such organisations which can be used as a centralised infrastructure to support municipal processes. The collection of data, the analysis of the characteristics and uses of land parcels and their interconnection with all the necessary resource information of each municipality through a GIS will benefit the municipality in better organization and decision making concerning the city. This project aims to develop a fully functional tailored-made centralized GIS system for the municipalities of the Limassol district.

Description of the Position
This position concerns researchers with a postgraduate degree.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be placed in the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and is expected to contribute towards shaping and advancing its research and innovation agenda by working in the project stated above as the "Development of a database and of a Geographical Information System (GIS) for the municipalities of the Limassol district" by fulfilling the following tasks: 
1. Perform audit of existing systems;
2. Record user needs;
3. Record system technical specifications;
4. Propose the design and architecture of the new system;
5. Propose the technical requirements for the new system design and architecture of the new system;
6. Propose possible implementation scenarios;
7. Implement recommended solutions;
8. Develop custom made software solutions to be used in a GIS software;
9. Develop custom made APIs;
10. Participation in the preparation and submission of project deliverables;
11. Organization / Participation in meetings with the funding team;
12. Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.

Qualifications
1. B.Sc. in Topography, Survey Engineer or other relevant subject with at least 10 years' experience;
2. M.Sc. in a relevant subject, such as: Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Analysis, Geoinformatics, Cadastre or other relevant field;
3. Software use and programming GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS), WebGIS software (ArcGIS Online/Portal) CAD applications, Python, RDBMS (PostgreSQL, SQL Server);
4. Previous experience in project management for at least 5 projects in the field of geospatial data management and analysis;
5. Previous experience in relevant projects;
6. Previous experience in implementation of similar projects;
7. Advanced knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing is required.

The appointment will be for twelve (12) months or until the end of the project (which ever comes last). The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from € to € , depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
