General Manager, Nicosia - GM/12/25

Our client, an independent non-profit organisation in the health and patient support sector, is seeking to appoint a General Manager — a visionary, strategic leader with a genuine commitment to improving the lives of patients and their families.

Role Purpose

The General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, fundraising and effective management of the Organisation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Develop, propose and update the Organisation's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board.
  • Translate strategy into annual objectives, action plans and KPIs, aligned with the mission and values.
  • Report regularly to the Board on progress, risks, finances and programme outcomes, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation and fostering a culture of transparency, accountability and patient-centred care.
2. Fundraising, Revenue Management & Partnerships
  • Design and implement a fundraising strategy to secure sustainable, diversified income (sponsors, donors, grants, events, CSR, EU projects).
  • Build and leverage networks to identify and secure funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Oversee revenue management and cashflow to ensure financial sustainability and targeted investment in services.
3. Financial Management & Compliance
  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with the Board.
  • Ensure sound financial management, including cost control, cashflow monitoring and efficient use of funds.
  • Oversee financial processes (payments, contracts, procurement, basic controls) and ensure accurate, timely reporting and risk mitigation.
4. Operations, Programmes & Service Delivery
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Organisation and the quality, safety and effectiveness of all services and programmes.
  • Supervise and support staff and key volunteers involved in programme delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate programmes and projects, ensuring continuous improvement based on stakeholder feedback.
5. Advocacy, Representation & Communication
  • Act as the Organisation's spokesperson in media, social media, public events and conferences.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of patients with local and national authorities, health professionals, policymakers and EU bodies.
  • Ensure consistent, impactful communication of the Organisation's mission and work, and strengthen visibility through strategic partnerships in Cyprus and abroad.
6. People Leadership & Organisational Culture
  • Lead, motivate and support staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of empathy, collaboration, respect and high performance.
  • Clarify roles and expectations, provide feedback and support development of the team.
  • Promote an inclusive, patient-centred working environment aligned with the Organisation's mission and values.
Education, Experience & Profile
  • University degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, Health Management, Social Sciences or related field; a postgraduate degree is an advantage.
  • At least 10 years' professional experience, including significant leadership/management experience, ideally in a non-profit, health-related or patient advocacy environment.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, strategic planning, project management and implementation of action plans.
  • Experience representing an organisation in media, public events or conferences is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare sector, patient support services or advocacy in Cyprus or Europe is an asset.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders (patients, professionals, sponsors, authorities, media).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in Greek and English (oral and written).
  • Strong financial literacy and confidence in budgeting, reporting and financial decision-making.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work both strategically and hands-on.
  • Deep empathy and sensitivity towards patients and their families.
  • High integrity, ethics and strong commitment to the Organisation's mission.
  • Visionary, strategic, proactive and results-oriented, with a collaborative leadership style and the ability to inspire and unite others.
Remuneration & Terms

Annual gross salary: Up to €60,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
