THREE (3) POSITIONS OF SENIOR RESEARCHER A' (EQUIVALENT TO FULL PROFESSOR) IN EARTH OBSERVATION OR GEOINFORMATION 

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) ) of the Cyprus University of Technology ) invites applications for three positions of Distinguished Professor in Earth Observation or Geoinformation at ERATOSTHENES CoE. The positions are open on a full-time employment basis (minimum duration 6 months – maximum duration 12 months).

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis since 2007. Through the "EXCELSIOR" H2020 Teaming Project ), ERATOSTHENES CoE aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus' development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region. A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Description of the Position
The successful candidates should have a proven track record of outstanding research on Earth Observation and/or Geoinformation, evidenced by existing publications of the highest quality in top ranked journals as well by participation in innovative research projects, ideally in partnership with the international space Industry. The successful candidates should showcase extended experience in the scientific supervision of Early-stage Researchers as well have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research outcomes that will result in world-leading publications.

The successful candidates will join one of the three research departments of the Centre ) and will facilitate/contribute the achievement of the KPIs of the Centre, in terms of publishing high-quality scientific articles and acquiring competitive funding for innovative research projects (incl. ERA Chairs, ERC, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships). The successful candidates will also contribute to the development of the Centre's research strategy for the next 10-15 years.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates' duties and responsibilities will include:

• Conducting substantive and original research into complex problems, ideas, concepts or theories and applying appropriate methodologies.

• Contributing to the development of the Centre's future research strategy goals.

• Leading major proposals to secure funding from esteemed research programmes.

• Publishing work of outstanding quality and significance to the disciplines of Earth Observation or Geoinformastics or closely related subjects.

• Supervision of Early-Stage Researchers of the Centre.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A PhD in any subject closely related to Earth Observation and/or Geoinformatics.

• Expertise and research interests that complement existing fields of research of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence.

• A proven record of outstanding research, as evidenced by existing publications of the highest quality in top ranked journals as well by participation in innovative research projects, ideally in partnership with the international space Industry.

• Track record of publishing on a continuous basis in top journals, or with leading book publishers.

• A clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research outcomes that will result in world-leading publications.

• An outstanding international reputation in Earth Observation or Geoinformation or a closely related subject.

• Evidence of innovation or creativity in research.

• Track record in successfully applying and acquiring competitive research funding.

• Proven experience of mentoring and developing colleagues to support them in their career development.

• Track record in providing leadership in advancing research.

The appointment will be for a period from six to twelve months (6 to 12 months). The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from € to € , depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is a provision for 13th salary which has been proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration.

Review of applications will start on 1 March 2025 and will be repeated every month until the positions are filled but not beyond July 2025.
