Why we need you:
You will play a key role in supporting our data protection and compliance framework, ensuring MCTC operates in line with GDPR and international regulations. By maintaining accurate records, assisting with audits, and monitoring compliance, you'll help safeguard the company's data and strengthen our commitment to transparency, trust, and regulatory excellence.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal data protection policies, procedures, and records.
- Support the external Data Protection Officer (DPO) with GDPR documentation, evidence gathering, and compliance reporting.
- Conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and advise on new projects, technologies, or vendor relationships.
- Maintain and update the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA).
- Provide regular training and awareness sessions on data protection and information security.
- Monitor compliance with GDPR and other applicable data protection/security requirements.
- Work closely with IT to ensure that appropriate technical and organizational measures are in place to protect personal data (access control, encryption, incident management, backup, supplier security reviews).
- Prepare for external audits.
- Report on compliance and security risks to senior management.
- Review contracts and supplier agreements for compliance-related clauses (e.g. data protection, sanctions, sustainability, ISO requirements).
- Assist the Compliance Manager in identifying and monitoring legal and regulatory requirements applicable, supporting the broader compliance and governance tasks.
- Review internal policies and procedures to ensure they are aligned with current laws and standards.
- Maintain a compliance obligations register (legal and other requirements) and track updates.
- Help ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) from compliance audits are implemented and documented.
- Monitor industry developments and highlight emerging compliance risks or regulatory changes.
You need these qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Compliance, Information Governance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a compliance or data protection role.
- Proficiency in MS Office and general computer literacy.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Solid understanding of GDPR and EU data protection principles.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
It would be nice if:
- You have similar experience within the maritime industry.
- You hold a privacy-related certification (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM).
- You have hands-on experience coordinating data protection compliance across multiple departments or countries.
- You have strong project coordination skills and enjoy working across functions (compliance, IT, procurement, operations).
- You ideally hold a certification related to ISO e.g. Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor).
- You have an interest in the maritime or international business sector.
