Waldorf Pre Primary Co Teacher/Teaching Assistant 

The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus opened for the first 500 students in September 2022, and is now looking for competent, experienced and, above all, passionate Waldorf Class Teacher Assistant to join the team.

We are also in the process of planning our new school campus on a beautiful 50,000 m2 site to be completed approximately by end of 2026, that will include kindergartens, elementary and high schools, an international boarding school, and accommodation for teachers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing school on the cusp of a major turning point.

Cyprus regulations require applicants to have a university degree in Education Pedagogic recognised by KY.S.A.T.S. (The Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) and the ability to pass a background check.    

The Position:

The role of Waldorf Class Pre Primary Co Teacher/Teaching Assistant is a full-time position, facilitating learning and holistic development in the assigned class, as described in the Waldorf School curriculum and within the framework of Waldorf educational philosophy. 

General responsibilities:

  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are expected to develop an understanding of the model of child development that underlies the Waldorf curriculum, and couple this with the study of the curriculum itself, the curriculum standards of the school, and an awareness of the class and community and plan lessons for the grade level of their students. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are expected to work to deepen their understanding of the curriculum through the anthroposophical study of human development and the evolution of human consciousness, through discussion with colleagues and attendance of courses and workshops. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are expected to maintain an awareness and an interest in educational and learning developments going on outside of (or parallel to) Waldorf education. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are asked to provide for the children a conscious model of responsible behaviour that together with loving authority and discipline, conveys to them a living sense of respect, reverence and gratitude. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are to develop the ability to work with the class as a whole, while concurrently being aware of (and tending to) individual needs. 
  • With the class teacher, the Pre Primary Co Teacher is responsible for keeping the children's work in organized manner, and developing methods of evaluation of the children's physical, emotional and intellectual development through record-keeping (working with the class teacher and within the guidelines of the Waldorf curriculum). 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers should maintain the values, ethos and mission of the school; demonstrate conduct and competence in line with Steiner Waldorf Teaching Standards; and adhere to the Staff Code of Conduct, Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and all School Policies.
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are to work together with their faculty colleagues - sharing observations, questions and insights - to support each other's professional and personal development. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are expected to take part in school events for children and parents.
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are to support the main class teacher and the students in maintaining the physical environment of their classrooms - creating a place that inspires learning by giving care to the beauty, artistic aspects, cleanliness and order of the room - and for the shared school building and grounds. 
  • Pre Primary Co Teachers are expected to attend weekly departmental meetings, individual meetings with colleagues, mentorships meetings, training sessions and inset days as scheduled. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Pre primary education 
  • Knowledge and understanding of anthroposophy and the picture of child development it presents 
  • An understanding of the Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy (Certification in Waldorf teaching is welcome but not mandatory)
  • Experience and/or training in teaching children 
  • Good written and oral communication skills 
  • The ability to work in an organised and timely manner 
  • The ability to work artistically and creatively within the educational framework 
  • Professionalism in speech, dress and manner 
  • Interest in self-development of skills that support the curriculum and good working relations

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 10:00-18:00.
