Our client, one of the largest retail hypermarket chains in Cyprus, with an expansive network of stores across the island, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to lead the accounting operations and support the CFO in high-level financial management.

Objective

This role is pivotal in maintaining the financial health of the company, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and driving efficiency within the finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, preferably within the retail industry, and proven leadership capabilities.

Position's Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of 10 accountants, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, tax, and inventory accounting.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to enhance accuracy and compliance.
  • Facilitate training and professional development within the accounting team.
  • Ensure timely preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and assessments.
  • Assist the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making by senior management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of accounting systems and software.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure data integrity and system integration.

Position's Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Retail industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
